	Research and development is the most important (and arguably most boring) part of the science department. 	Research points are generated at a static rate by the R&D Network and can be spent on Technology Nodes at the console.You can see press details on a node to see which nodes it requires and unlocks, what discounts it might have, and what items it unlocks.
